SUBSIDENCE – Identification / Monitoring / Control

SUBSIDENCE! – Is the current dry spell leaving you with a sinking feeling?

INCLINATION AND APERTURE CAN BE KEY IN DIAGNOSING CAUSATION

This weeks interesting project was to investigate and report on masonry cracking for our clients. The report allowing them to progress with their buildings insurer. The cracking had manifested in the south side gable of the period property, immediately adjacent to hedgerow planting. Such cracking is common when some close proximity tree types are planted too close to foundations that are in clayey soils. Within the hedgerow, a 4m tall Plum Cherry being identified here. Resulting subsidence cracking, can be due to the soil desiccation shrinkage process exacerbated in dry periods.
